History
Elm Cottage was built circa 1885 by John Doughty, a local farmer from Glenroy and his son Tom.
The cottage was constructed from local stone and rubble with the walls measuring 18 inches thick. The original roof was built from pit sawn timber and hand split shingles, being replaced in c1930 and again in 1985. The cottage was finally connected to electricity in 1960.
Final restoration started in 2002 and took nearly 12 years to complete.

Jan Doughty Hewett has written a valuable history of the cottage and surrounding areas in her book titled "Tom and Mary Doughty" which can be found in the local library in Tumburumba.
